Joining CS 10 Late – What You Need to Know

Can I still catch up?

Yes! With effort, you can get up to speed.

What should I do first?

  1. Read Ed Discussion Post: To join EdStem, click here.

  2. Fill out the Late-add Google Form. After submitting the form, refer to the Late Add Deadline Tracker to find your extended due dates. There are several tabs at the bottom of the tracker, each labeled by week and date (e.g., “Week 2 Wed – 9/2”). Select the one that most closely matches the date you joined CS10 and/or attended your first lecture.

    For example, if you officially enrolled in CS10 on Tuesday, 9/1, you should use the “Week 2 Wed – 9/2” tab to view your updated deadlines. Your new due dates will appear in the “Due Date” column of the sheet.

    You do not have to receive approval or confirmation from course staff. Just start working directly, following the extended due dates in the Late Add Deadline Tracker.

    NOTE 1: Gradescope will still show the original due date and mark late submissions as late—this is expected. As long as you submit by your extended due date in the tracker, we’ll manually waive that penalty; no need to email us about it.

    NOTE 2: Lecture Quizzes are optional, supplementary practice and will not affect your grade. That said, we strongly encourage late joiners to attempt them anyway. They’re a good way to catch up on material you missed.

  3. Read Website: Start from the beginning—go through the syllabus, lectures, and assignments in order. The class schedule can be found on our home page.

Will I be penalized for missed work?

No, you won’t be penalized for assignments due before you joined.

Will I be penalized for attendance?

No, missed sessions before you officially joined the class do not count against you. Your 10 attendance passes for the semester start counting down from the day you officially joined the class. If you have any questions, read the attendance policy on the syllabus and post on Ed.

Will deadlines be adjusted for me?

Yes, assignments based on the week you join and past work will be adjusted.

Do I still need to take the first exam?

Yes, all students are required to take the first exam: Quest. Other exam policies can be found in our syllabus!

How much time will it take to catch up?

It depends, but expect to spend extra hours at first.
